Kinja'd!!!

I’ve located what looks to be a really nice Miata a few hours away and had a great conversation with the seller on the phone. I made him my offer that evening and, while he seemed amenable, he didn’t accept and asked for some time to think about it. To be fair, he was on a little vacation when we spoke .

That was Wednesday. I pinged him back on Sunday to ask if he had considered my offer, and I got back a couple short replies. Come to find out later that he’s got a family member in the hospital, so he’s dealing with that. I told him to take all the time he needs; however, I don’t know where that leaves me.

I really like the car and should he agree to my offer, I think it’ll be a very fair deal all the way around. That said, I’m seeing other options pop up, though nothing I’d like objectively more than what he’s selling.

What should I do? Should I hang on here or start looking at other options. No money has been exchanged and no promises made either way, so I wouldn’t feel any guilt, but would be disappointed to miss out on this car.

If you think he’s being honest about the vacation and the family member in the hospital, I’d just give it a week (or two) before moving on.

No harm in looking at other cars, or even test-driving - just don’t make another offer until you know that status of this deal.

I think that’s fair - and I do believe him. He’s not a CL seller or something like that, I don’t know him personally, but we know a lot of the same people in the Miata and local enthusiast community and he has a good reputation .

Yeah, with all that info I’d definitely wait. A good previous owner/seller is worth his weight in gold if you can buy at a fair price.

Only bug him once a week, but keep shopping in the meantime. If you find something, text him again and let him know. If he still can’t deal with you, at least you know where his priorities are and you’re being respectful about it all.

Agreed - I think my short-sightedness is coming into play as I see what little remaining convertible season rapidly evaporating.

That’s a good call.  I’m hoping to check out a 2009 this weekend with only 28k on the clock from the List of Craig.

There is that. Does the car in question have seat heaters...?

It sure does, though a 250whp Miata on cold roads might have a bit of a pucker factor.
